Industry News: Key Sites and Newsletters to Follow

I’ve had some folks ask what my favorite newsletters and websites are, so here we go! This is only a partial list of many, but these are all great places to learn more about all things book publishing.

GENERAL NEWS & INFO

Writer’s Digest: A go-to site for any writing, editing, or publishing question.

Book Business: Topical book news with a very helpful “Insight” newsletter.

Publishers Weekly: I recommend subscribing to their free newsletters. They contain tons of publishing details, from recent deals to big events and even job postings in the field.

Publishers Marketplace: This is a membership-based site for publishing professionals that is a great place to learn about folks and deals in the industry.

Independent Publisher: I may be a bit biased since I’m a contributing editor here, but IP Magazine is a great digital magazine with news and articles on all things indie publishing.

Huffington Post Book News: A nice roundup of recent publishing news.

Goodreads: Obviously.

CHILDREN’S & YA

Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators: Another membership site, but with incredible perks such as newsletters, magazines, and great children’s resources.

Epic Reads: This site is an extension of HarperCollins that showcases upcoming books, new trends, and fun events.

Book Riot: I especially love getting Kelly Jensen’s “What’s Up in YA?” newsletter.

Go Teen Writers: An awesome place for young and growing writers!

YA Highway: Great online community for YA lovers.

YA Book Central (YABC): Another awesome place to see and post reviews, learn about upcoming books, and more.

AGENTS & QUERIES

Guide to Literary Agents: Chuck Sambuchino is the agent guru. Stay turned for news on agents, deals, and more.

Manuscript Wish List: One of the best ways to connect with agents and editors!

Query Shark: Want to see what makes for a good query? Look no further.
